Tatcha Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick
When I think of red lipstick I think of the bright, chalky colour that geishas wear. For me it’s more alluring than a Hollywood red lip. So when I read about the Tatcha Kyoto Red Silk lipstick, I felt like a beauty demon took over me. I had to have it at any cost. I tried ordering it online, but it wasn’t shipped to India. I asked a friend to get it from Hong Kong but it was only available during Christmas. It was out of stock on the Tatcha website. Still, I persevered and finally found it at Barney’s. And I got a friend to carry it back all the way from New York. Phew!
For the initiated, Tatcha is a luxury skincare brand inspired by geisha rituals. They only have two lipsticks – Kyoto Red (this bright poppy hue) and Plum Blossom (a muted browny/pink). The Kyoto Red Silk lipstick is the signature scarlet that was worn by all geishas in Japan. Its a universal red that is said to suit everyone. While I bought the lipstick for the story and colour, I have to say that it is one of the lightest, most comfortable matte lipsticks thatI have worn. The colour is bright, but its still a soft red. It makes your skin look radiant but never shouts for attention.
