Dark Circles
Most women I meet always ask me what they can do to get rid of dark circles. But this is one problem, which is rather difficult to resolve. So I called up Mumbai-based dermatologist Dr Rashmi Shetty to understand why it is so common, especially among Indian women. “Indian women are prone to dark circles genetically, because of under eye is more sunken as compared to the cheekbone.” This natural structure casts a shadow under the eye, and can look worse if there is lack of sleep, poor diet, too much salty food, or if you have allergies. “Sometimes vigorously rubbing our eyes can also cause dark circles it may cause the blood to leak from the capillaries and pool under the eyes,” says Dr Shetty. Of course there is no wonder eye cream that can get rid of your circles if you don’t reduce salt, sleep well and eat healthy meals. That said, here are a couple of things which have reduced my circles considerably:
- Jal neti. This ancient Ayurvedic system helps drain the sinuses so your circles look lighter and eye look some sparkly. Read more about it here: https://vbeauty.co/2016/04/26/how-i-cured-my-migraine/
- Creams that contain ingredients to brighten dark patches and stimulate collagen like retinoids, vitamin C and peptides. Dr Dennis Gross Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Solution has great reviews and all the right ingredients to reduce lines and circles. - Vitamin E oil. If you don’t want to spend on a pricey cream, just pierce a vitamin E capsule and pat the oil under the eye. You will see changes in as less as four days.
- Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Corrector and Concealer. Literally the best under eye coverup that I have ever come across. You pat the peachy/orange corrector under the eye first and then the concealer over it. I love it because it is ultra-light so it never creases and never looks cakey.
